A. Study the given examples.

I wish I had a car.

I wish I could speak English fluently.

I wish he would lend me some money.

I wish I lived closer to my family.

I wish they wouldn't park their car in front of my house.

He wishes he could afford a holiday.

They wish they hadn't eaten so much chocolate.

I wish + simple past is used to express the existing situation is different.

I wish + I could is used to express that I had the ability to do that.

I wish + would is used to wish that something would happen.

 

B. Express your wishes in the following situations in three different ways.

Use I wish/If only…….

a.  You don’t have a mobile phone (You need one).

Ans:   I wish I had a mobile phone.

I wish I could use mobile phone.

I wish my mother would buy me a mobile phone.

b.    You don’t know the answer of a question from the lesson.

Ans:   I wish I knew the answer of the question.

I wish I could know the answer.

I wish Rita would tell the answer of the question.

c.    You can’t play the guitar.

Ans:   I wish I had a guitar.

I wish I could play the guitar.

I wish Ram would lend me guitar.

d.    It’s cold.

Ans:   I wish I were in campfire.

I wish I could stay at home.

I wish Sabita would burn some firewood.

e.    You are feeling sick.

Ans:   I wish I got some medicine.

I wish I could do my work.

I wish Ranjan would take me to the doctor.

f.     You live in a crowded city.

Ans:   I wish I lived in a village.

I wish I could live in a crowded city.

I wish my father would sell this house.

g.    You feel lonely.

Ans:   I wish I were with my friends.

I wish I could meet my friends.

I wish Bishnu would come to my house.

C. Rewrite the following sentences making correction if necessary.

a. I wish my father bought me a bike.

Ans: I wish my father bought me a bike.

b. I wish I would write poems.

Ans: I wish I could write poems.

c. I wish I could remember her name.

d. I wish I had a god job.
